EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Privacy Notice
and this web site’s GDPR compliance actions will take effect as of May 25th, 2018.
THE LINK TO SUBSCRIBE TO EVE PALUDAN, AUTHOR’S NEWSLETTER has been removed and on May 24th, 2018, my MailChimp account was deleted, along with all subscriber and unsubscriber data. The reason is that some countries do not allow anything free to be provided in exchange for an email address. So, I have decided to suspend the author newsletter because I would not be able to announce my free ebooks in it! Many of my ebook customers are in the EU and my decision to suspend the newsletter is directly related to the requirement to comply with GDPR requirements. I know that others are tinkering with their email lists and creating different email lists and different emails for people in different countries, but I am not doing that. I like to keep things simple and the simplest way to get my news to readers is through my web site blog and also social media posts. Thanks for understanding that the suspension of the newsletter is because of the GDPR! I cannot give away anything free in an emailed newsletter to anyone in the EU. I am relating my layperson’s interpretation of all the legalese that surrounds the difficulty of the GDPR. I wanted to write about the Privacy Policy in easy-to-understand English that still complies with the privacy policies every web site must now post.
So, please make sure to bookmark my website so you can come back to the front page of the blog to get all the latest news of free ebooks and other news without having to supply your email address. That keeps me from breaking the EU laws and even though I live in the US, I still have to comply with the GDPR.
And now, on to the web site privacy policy which I adapted from the free toolkit on this site: https://wewillthrive.co.uk/resources/toolkits-templates/gdpr-build-your-own-privacy-notice
At evepaludanbooks.com, we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our visitors to our web site. In particular, we want you to know that evepaludanbooks.com is not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. We just don’t do that sort of thing. But just in case you don’t believe us, in this Privacy Policy, we’ve provided lots of detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure. If you are still reading, I salute you because this is some tedious stuff to read, let alone write.
When someone visits evepaludanbooks.com, my host, WordPress, uses a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.
As far as mailing lists go, the beginning of this page informs visitors that my mailing list will be suspended as of May 25th, 2018. I will not be collecting email addresses through this web site as of this date for the reasons stated above.
Until May 25th, 2018, I used a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver an infrequent newsletter. MailChimp gathered statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. After May 25th, the email subscription database will be removed from MailChimp by me. So, yes, I will be removing your email address and your name, etc. to protect your data by taking it off the MailChimp site. If you have questions, just use the contact form below or directly email evepaludan @ hotmail.com (but remove those spaces in my email address!)
What’s next? Soon, I am going to disable the comments and likes feature for this web site to further protect your data and privacy. This goes beyond what I interpret as necessary to comply with the GDPR, but it is a goodwill gesture on my part to further protect your privacy and your personal data.
This privacy policy was written on May 21, 2018, and updates will be announced here as well.
